2025 Orthodox Day of Service
Locations for the 2025 Good Samaritan Orthodox Day of Service
To provide our parishioners with opportunities to learn both about the meaning of Christ’s call to love, as well as how we can assist those in our communities who are in need, the Good Samaritan Project is honored to announce our 3rd Annual Orthodox Day of Service.
We are excited that work will be done in 17 locations!! The following table provides information about the wide variety of projects that will be done at each, as well as providing contact information if you are interested in volunteering.
Denver Metro:
1. St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church – Greenwood Village
Partnering St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church, Greenwood Village
Parishes: St. Tikhon Orthodox Church, Parker
St. Herman Orthodox Church, Littleton
The work event will include packing meals for Project our Town [1]; writing prisoner veteran greeting and paschal cards for OCPM; and having children make Rockies Opening Day cards for seniors.

2. Assumption of the Theotokos Cathedral – Denver
The Cathedral will again partner with Meals of Hope [2] to pack 35,000 meals. The meals will go to the Food Bank of the Rockies for distribution.

3. GOYA Youth Retreat at Larkspur, CO
The Denver Metropolis Youth will construct IOCC Hygiene Kits.

4. The Brotherhood of St. George, Denver CO
The monastery will assemble newborn baby blankets on March 1. The work effort will be done after Saturday Liturgy.

` 5. Holy Transfiguration of Christ Cathedral – Denver
Holy Transfiguration will host a community breakfast and fill and distribute toiletry kits to those in need in the parish's community. The parish’s ambition is to make this a monthly occurrence, and to determine other avenues of community outreach.

Northern Colorado:
6. St. Columba Antiochian Orthodox Church – Erie
The parish will also assemble newborn baby blankets. The work effort will be done after St. Columba’s Saturday Liturgy..

7. St. Luke Antiochian Orthodox Church – Erie
The parish will be partnering with Meals of Hope [2] to pack 35,000 meals. This activity is for all Northern Colorado Orthodox parishes. We hope to have participants from St. Luke, St. James, St. Spyridon, St. Peters & Paul, St. Columba, St. Dimitrie the New, St. Elias and St. John Chrysostom Orthodox Churches. Meals will go to Erie Food Bank, the Carmen Center and possibly Broomfield Fish.

8. St. Luke Antiochian Orthodox Church – Erie
The parish will again partner with Joshua Station, [3] and Justice and Mercy Legal Aid Center [4] to refurbish play and work areas used by the children of the families staying at Joshua House.

9. St. Spyridon Orthodox Church - Loveland
The parish will do the same projects as last year: 1) pack Snack Bags for our local community kitchen, 2) write paschal greeting cards for Larimer County Jail Inmates, 3) collecting food and monetary donations for are school youth, and 3) fill and deliver senior care bags to a local senior retirement community.

10. St. Dimitrie the New – Frederick
The parish youth will be decorating bags on Sundays in March that will be filled with household goods for residents living in a senior living complex in Loveland.

Southern Colorado:
11. St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church– Pueblo
The parish will assemble bags of goods for seniors living in a low-income senior home. Parishioners and the completed bags of goods will be taken to the senior home, where they will be distributed to residents in the home’s community room, which will provide an opportunity for fellowship.

12. Holy Theophany Orthodox Church – Colorado Springs
This effort is a partnership with the newly consecrated St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Colorado Springs. The parishes will pack care packages for the homeless living on campsites. Two groups will walk through the campsites and hand deliver the care packages to those living there.

Wyoming and Nebraska:
13. Holy Apostles and Sts. Constantine & Helen – Cheyenne, WY
Parishioners from Sts. Constantine & Helen and Holy Apostles will be joining together to make hygiene bags and provide donations of food and baby supplies to Comea Shelter, Safe House and LifeChoice Pregnancy Center in Cheyenne.

14. Assumption Greek Orthodox Church – Bayard, NE
The parish activity is a “Drive for the Pine Ridge Reservation.” Parishioners will be collecting and delivering a variety of personal hygiene items, infant supplies, and household goods for those on the reservation. The parish hopes to establish a relationship with those on the reservation that will allow them to spread the Gospel of Christ.

The parish will both volunteer to help with food distribution at a local charity. and also host an IOCC Hygiene Kit Day.

[1] Project Our Town’s primary objective is to provide volunteer opportunities that benefit our non-profit partners who are offering assistance and meeting the critical needs of the people in our community.
[2] Meals of Hope mission is to “To inspire and empower communities to come together to end hunger.” This is done by partnering with local volunteers to pack meals to feed people.
[3] Joshua Station is a ministry of Mile High Ministries, which has been engaged in Christian community development in the Denver Metro area for 30 years. Joshua Station hosts about 30 families who are either coming out of homelessness or are being protected from homelessness.
[4] Through free legal aid, Justice and Mercy Legal Aid Center provides advocacy and education, and seeks justice for the most vulnerable in their community.
[4] Marisol Family serves Colorado families by providing material assistance, support services and family education. They assist expectant moms and families with young children.
