2023 Orthodox Day of Service

Where Did We Work:

We gathered on April 1, 2023, for the Good Samaritan Project's inaugural Orthodox Day of Service. We met at five locations throughout the state with the goal of serving our brothers and sisters in need. The following provides information about the general work done at the five locations:

  • St. Catherine Orthodox Church in Greenwood Village, CO. Partnered with Project Our Town to construct blankets for kids and pack Soup Bags lunches for those in need.

St. Luke Orthodox Church in Erie, CO.  Partnered with Orthodox Christians for Life (OCL) and local Pregnancy Centers to pack Gift Boxes of goods for new mothers.

  • Assumption of the Theotokos Cathedral in Denver, CO. Partnered with Meals of Hope to pack lunch bags that will be distributed to those in need.

  • St. Spyridon Orthodox Church in Loveland, CO. Partnered with KidsPak of Loveland to pack food bags that the Thompson Valley School District will distribute to food insecure kids.

The workday afternoon included a time of teaching, fellowship, serving, and worship.

No special skills, talents or strength were need - just each who participated!!

What We Accomplish:

Nearly 290 people participated at our 5 locations, representing at least 7 Colorado parishes. Almost 50,000 meals were packed, over 90 baby blankets made, 144 IOCC School Kits constructed, numerous gift baskets and 750 diapers given to a local pregnancy center, and 75 cards written to military personnel.

The day indeed included a broad range of alms-giving! What participants found exciting was seeing the Lord work in building up people and the parish team. We were stunned and in awe of God’s graciousness and love. The most common comment we heard from those who participated was the great opportunity to work together, to serve others and having a sense of accomplishment of helping others.

We invite you all to participate in the 2024 Orthodox Day of Service on April 20, 2024. More details to come!!
