Locations for the 2024 Good Samaritan Orthodox Day of Service
To provide our parishioners with opportunities to learn both about the meaning of Christ’s call to love, as well as how we can assist those in our communities who are in need, the Good Samaritan Project is honored to announce our 2nd Annual Orthodox Day of Service.
We are excited that work will be done in 14 locations!! The following table provides information about the wide variety of projects that will be done at each, as well as providing contact information if you are interested in volunteering.
Denver Metro:
1. St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church – Greenwood Village

Project: Pack bean soup meals through Project Our Town [1] and write greeting cards to military personnel living overseas.

2. Assumption of the Theotokos Cathedral – Denver
Project: Partner with Meals of Hope [2] to pack meal bags for those in need.

3. GOYA Youth Retreat at Larkspur, CO
Project: Write paschal cards to prisoners through OCPM and decorate food delivery bags for Project Angel Heart [3].

4. The Brotherhood of St. George, Denver CO
Project: After Saturday Liturgy, participants will assembly blankets for Marisol Services and write Greeting Cards for OCPM inmates.

5. St. Columba Antiochian Orthodox Church – Erie
Project: Assemble newborn baby blankets for Marisol Services [4] in Denver.

6. St. Luke Antiochian Orthodox Church – Erie
Project: Partner with Joshua Station, [5] and Justice and Mercy Legal Aid Center [6] to do general maintenance around Joshua Station, including landscaping, painting, and other related activities.

7. Sts. Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church – Boulder
Project: Pack maternity items into Gift Bags and distribute them to a local pregnancy center.

8. St. Spyridon Orthodox Church - Loveland
Project: During Fellowship parish families will write paschal cards to prisoners through OCPM; pack food bags for Loveland Community Kitchen; and pack Senior Care Bags that will go to a local senior home.

9. St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church– Pueblo
Project: Assemble Senior Care Bags for seniors living in a low-income senior home. Parishioners will deliver the Senior Cae Bags to a senior home in Pueblo, where they will be distributed to residents, providing an opportunity for fellowship.

10. Holy Theophany Orthodox Church – Colorado Springs
Project: The parish will partner with St. John the Baptist in assembling Senior Care Bags that will be distributed to seniors in the Pueblo/Colorado Springs area.

11. Holy Apostles and Sts. Constantine & Helen – Cheyenne, WY
Project: Tying fleece blankets for the Wyoming Highway Patrol; assembling 50 personal grooming kits to be donated to Comea Shelter; and packaging snack items for donation to Safe House in Cheyenne.

12. Assumption Greek Orthodox Church – Bayard, NE
Project: Partner with Re-Member [7] to address the extreme financial and spiritual needs at Pineridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. The parish is collecting household goods and clothing which will be assembled into Family Gift Bags. Re-Member will distribute the Family Gift Bags to those in need on the reservation.

Project: The parish will partner with Arundel House of Hope [9] to pack food bags for the community’s homeless.

[1] Project Our Town’s primary objective is to provide volunteer opportunities that benefit our non-profit partners who are offering assistance and meeting the critical needs of the people in our community.
[2] Meals of Hope mission is to “To inspire and empower communities to come together to end hunger.” This is done by partnering with local volunteers to pack meals to feed people.
[3] Project Angel Heart’s vision is for all Coloradans living with severe illness to have access to nutritious food that supports their health and well-being.
[4] Marisol Family serves Colorado families by providing material assistance, support services and family education. They assist expectant moms and families with young children.
[5] Joshua Station is a ministry of Mile High Ministries, which has been engaged in Christian community development in the Denver Metro area for 30 years. Joshua Station hosts about 30 families who are either coming out of homelessness or are being protected from homelessness.
[6] Through free legal aid, Justice and Mercy Legal Aid Center provides advocacy and education, and seeks justice for the most vulnerable in their community.
[7] Re-Member is an independent, non-profit organization working with the Oglala Lakota Nation on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. We improve the quality of life for those who live here, and provide meaningful opportunities to serve and learn for those who volunteer and support our work.
[8]Project Linus provides handmade blankets to children 0-18 in the United States who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. To date Project Linus has given away nearly 10 million blankets.
[9] Arundel House of Hope provides emergency, transitional, and permanent affordable housing for the poor and those experiencing homelessness in Anne Arundel County
